In today’s hectic world, learning to meditate can bring a sense of calm and inner satisfaction. When you meditate, you might use a technique (such as mindful breath awareness or a visualisation) to focus your attention and when your mind wanders to other things, such as your to-do list or work, you gently re-focus on the meditation technique. When we quiet the mind and focus on our breath, we begin to notice our thoughts and how active our mind is. This mind activity is part of the human condition and often these thoughts can be negative or delusional.

Plus, morning meditation can be a nice way to start the day — you’re refreshed, awake, and on track for a mindful day. The moment you notice that your mind has wandered, return your attention to the part of the body you last remember. You can find a large rock or perch for a sitting meditation (with your eyes open or closed), or you can walk around and notice things. Although I have had many peaceful times in a guided meditation on YouTube or trying out some meditation tips like the ones I’ve shared above, it is nothing like the stillness and depth of peace I experience when I use my mantra.

It’s like starting an exercise regime – you don’t try to run a marathon the first time you go out for a jog, but you build up gradually – it’s the same with meditation, as hour-long sessions are really the equivalent of a mental marathon. Meditation tips suggest that finding a community in which people meditate in a similar manner can be very fruitful for practicing meditation on a regular basis.

Then practice the breathing exercises to relax: Inhale, tense the whole body, then throw the breath out and relax (do this 2 or 3 times). Then breath out again, effortlessly releasing the breath while being mindfully attentive to the sensations throughout the body.
