You filled a prescription and now you have some extra medication. You are helping your parents downsize and you found a cupboard full of old prescription medication. You are helping a friend clean up the house of a deceased relative and you found a lot of unused prescription medication. What do you do now? Do you simply throw it into the trash bin? Or flush it down the toilet? Or keep it (just in case someone else needs it in the future)?
If you find yourself in any of the above situations (or something similar), do not throw, flush, or keep any of the prescription medication. Instead, go to Washington Poison Control's "Take Back Your Meds" program website at: www.takebackyourmeds.org. The website provides options for the safe disposal of expired or unwanted medication.
